The Crucible

Teaching materials in support of the play.

The Crucible is an imaginative reconstruction of events in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1692.  The Communist "witch-hunts" in America in the 1940s and 1950s triggered Arthur Miller's concerns with the hysteria generated by fear.   This powerful but difficult text provides many opportunities for discussion and reaction.

The teaching support pack deals with the historical background to the play.   Detailed analyses, commentaries and questions, illuminate all stages of the play.   A variety of additional worksheets help to make the text accessible for a wide range of pupils with differing abilities.

Black and white line drawings.

This material may be photocopied within the purchasing establishment.
